Eaton Golf Club was founded in 1920.The course, likely established in 1917/18, was originally created as part of a therapeutic program for officers recovering at Eaton Hall during World War I. It started as a nine-hole layout, played twice for 18 holes. Initially designed for estate staff and tenants, the club has deep historical roots, with rough areas left to grow for hay, making early play challenging. Early competitions included the Duke’s Cup and Hunter Cup, competitions hosted by the Duke. Inter-club matches were limited to local clubs like Delamere Forest and Chester, establishing Eaton as a prominent part of the community in its early days.
